AmeriCares India Announces Spirit of Humanity Award Winners

MUMBAI  April 9, 2013 – Honorable State Health Minister of Maharashtra Shri Suresh Shetty was the Chief Guest at AmeriCares India’s 4th Annual Spirit of Humanity Awards in Mumbai on April 6. The awards ceremony honors individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions in improving health care for the underprivileged across India. Applicants competed in six categories: Infections, Neurology, Women’s Health, Child Nutrition, Oncology and a special Jury’s Choice award.

The winners, who were selected by an esteemed jury during the April 6 awards ceremony at the Courtyard by Marriott, are as follows:

The winner in each category received a cash award of Rs.100,000, a Spirit of Humanity trophy and a Certificate of Excellence. Distinguished guests at the awards ceremony included CEOs and CSR officials of supporting companies, renowned doctors and medical experts, celebrities, consulate staff and many more illustrious personalities.

AmeriCares India launched the Spirit of Humanity Awards in 2010 to celebrate the exemplary work of individuals, corporations and organizations assisting health care for the disadvantaged throughout India. More than 200 applications were submitted for this year’s competition. A Screening Committee narrowed the list of nominees to the top three applicants in each category and the shortlisted nominees presented their work directly to a jury in a transparent, standardized format – all under the supervision of KPMG.
