Incessant rains and overflowing rivers have caused havoc in Assam and Bihar. More than 30 Lac people in Assam and 80 Lac in Bihar are affected by the floods across several districts.  The continuous rains, water stagnation and contaminated water are leading to multiple health issues.

Disrupted life and poor connectivity have limited the healthcare access for many. There is an immediate need to provide primary healthcare and access to medicines to the population along with health & hygiene support.

In the initial phase, the emergency response team is deploying two humanitarian workers (one in each Assam and Bihar) to implement and supervise the Americares flood response operations with support from partners on ground.  Americares is in process of mobilizing relief supplies such as health and hygiene kits, tarps, mosquito nets, bed sheets, floor mats, water cans and water purification tablets for up to 15,000 families.

Americares India is also mobilizing medical teams to conduct health camps in the remote and hard-to-reach villages of Assam & Bihar. The camps will focus on vulnerable groups such as elderly, pregnant & lactating women and children.
