Americares emergency programs team is working with Nepal and India teams to assess needs following the deadly monsoon flooding.
In India, more than 2.6 million people have been affected across Assam and other eastern states, and more than 20 deaths have been reported. Incessant rains and overflowing rivers have caused havoc in Assam and Bihar. Disrupted life and poor connectivity have limited the healthcare access to many. Americares is mobilizing medical teams to conduct health camps in remote flood-affected villages of Assam & Bihar. These camps will focus on vulnerable groups such as elderly, pregnant & lactating women and children.
In Nepal, more than 10,000 people have been displaced, at least 60 people have been killed and these numbers could rise further as forecasts call for continued rain throughout the week. Many key roads have been affected, hampering communication and assessment efforts.
