Responding to India Floods
More than 700 villages in 26 of the 32 districts in the state of Assam have been damaged due to flooding caused by heavy rainfall. Incessant rains in recent weeks have disrupted normal life and have inundated thousands of acres of agricultural land. The flooding has caused landslides, blocked highways and damaged roads and bridges. Without access to safe drinking water, sanitation and health care facilities, the health of hundreds of thousands of people is at risk. Americares India has deployed medical teams to treat survivors of the severe flooding.
