Khajurdaha Nabankur United Club Khajurdaha Nabankur United Club (KNUC), founded in 1980, is a registered NGO based in rural and urban areas of Hooghly and Bardhaman District, West Bengal. The organization believes in the concept of appreciative enquiry, which means to assess, participate and discuss problem areas with members of underprivileged communities, and subsequently work together with the communities to find an appropriate solution. The basic mission of KNUC is to empower all – especially children, adolescents and women – by advancing their rights, enhancing their education, improving their health and socio-economic status, and including them as active contributors towards their own development and that of their communities. KNUC presently functions in 70 villages of Hooghly and the slum areas of Bardhaman district headquarters and Kalna block. In addition to its community development work, KNUC does a lot of work in the health sector. It provides health education, health checkups, and immunizations through its mobile outreach services. In education, female adolescents from disadvantaged groups are given nursing training. For ophthamological needs, eye camps are held where operations are performed. And in response to emergencies, the organization runs an ambulance service with the government under PPP, where one ambulance operates in Hooghly and the other in Vardhman district. In 2003, Khajurdaha Nabankur United Club opened a health centre called “Anandamay Seva Niketan”. This centre includes essential modern facilities such as X-Ray, ECG, USG, Pathology, ambulance & OPD. The services provided at the institution are general health checkup, medication, advocacy & counseling, specialized Pre & ante natal checkup, eye care and treatment, major/minor cataract surgery, emergency care and treatment, nebulization and oxygen. There is also a provision for care and treatment for safe and normal delivery, caesarian delivery, tubectomy operations, fractures, general investigations, radiology including ultrasound, and emergency referral services.
