Emergency Response
With our robust pre-positioning plan and strong pan-India network of partners, we work through preparedness, response and recovery, and stay as long as needed, providing immediate relief to survivors and helping to restore health services for long-term impact.
Prepare
In vulnerable regions, we pre-position emergency supplies, help communities reduce risk and prepare for disaster by training local health providers. Our CADRE project enables us to build capacities of partner networks and respond quickly and effectively whenever and wherever disaster strikes.
Respond
In the first hours, our emergency team sets in motion a disaster relief operation uniquely suited for the crisis and location. Our teams evaluate the current situation and address them with immediate primary care, medical aid and relief.
Recover
We stay as long as needed, rebuilding and strengthening health centres while addressing the health needs of the community and restoring access to care. Assessment of the affected community’s long-term health needs enables us to normalise and improve health systems, benefitting people for years to come.
Access to Medicine
Due to lack of access and affordability, individuals and families cannot get the medicine they need to stay healthy.
As the leading non-profit provider of donated medicine and medical supplies, we are working to change that.
A very large part of India’s population has inadequate or no access to essential and life-saving medicines. Along with skilled and dedicated healthcare providers, medicines are the most significant means that society possesses to prevent, alleviate, and cure disease.
Our Access to Medicine program increases access to quality medicines and supplies, to improve health outcomes for patients and low-income communities, by filling the resource gap of partner NGOs, hospitals and organizations.
Our 12,000 sq. ft. modern, state-of-art warehouse and pre-positioned stock enables us to mount an immediate response. We are increasing our number of warehousing facilities in order to deliver aid quickly to those in need.

We deliver quality health care to people who have none, at public hospitals and in low income communities, preventing and treating illness and promoting good health for each patient
Healthcare Worker Safety
We protect health care workers at risk of occupational exposure to infections such as Hepatitis, HIV and Tuberculosis among others.
Thousands of health care workers have benefitted from our comprehensive health care workforce safety program. Partnering with hospital management to ensure sustainability, our goal is to build capacity by providing a safe work environment and ensuring a healthy workforce.
Individual health workers are screened to identify their health risks and determine treatment. While testing and immunization offer protection from Hepatitis and other infectious diseases, educative workshops and in-ward trainings elicit positive behaviour change among the health workers.
Our efforts to create a safe work environment include strengthening of infection prevention, control and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) practices at each institution, training on safe injection practices as well as biomedical waste management and infrastructure upgrade.
Mobile Health Centres
Every person should have access to quality health care. Through our mobile health centres and partner clinics, we provide patients with treatment, prevention, education and health management services – the foundation of a productive life, full of opportunity and possibility!
Life in overcrowded and unsanitary urban slums is dangerous for health, development and welfare. Close to 50% of India’s urban population lives in slums where health care is not a priority due to lack of access, affordability, education and awareness. Urban slum dwellers are at risk of the double burden of both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
Americares Mobile Health Centres (MHCs) provide access & continuity of quality primary care and drive change in the health seeking behaviour of marginalized communities. Six days a week, our fully-equipped seven mobile health centres bring health care to impoverished families in 13 municipal wards of Mumbai. Each MHC visits specific locations twice a month – a regular schedule that slum residents can depend on.
Thousands of patients benefit from the vans’ on-site services and free medicines. For most patients, this is the only time they will ever see a doctor. Immediate needs are met, referrals are made, and chronic diseases are identified and treated on an on-going basis.
Each mobile health centre is staffed with a doctor, health worker, pharmacy assistant and data associate to provide complete care on-site. Beneficaries receive health education on various health issues including communicable diseases, anaemia, diabetes and hypertension, among others. Electronic health records for all patients are maintained to facilitate follow-up treatment and monitor the program.
Community Health
We design and implement sustainable programs in schools and low-income communities in order to strengthen community health.
School Health Program
Children come to school to learn. But too often, schools are places where children become ill. Personal habits as well as the cleanliness and physical environment of a school have a significant impact on the health and well-being of children.
Our comprehensive program aims to improve the health and learning of school children through a holistic approach, consisting of three core components – skills-based health education, water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and school health services. We also regularly engage with key stakeholders such as teachers and parents to ensure that they deliver consistent health messages to the students.
Our trained health facilitators engage students in interactive sessions that instil positive health attitudes and practices in them, whereas trained professionals conduct testing and treatment for anaemia, vision, hearing and oral care. Girl students are educated on menstrual health and provided access to personal hygiene products.
In conjunction to these, we focus on renovation and maintenance of water and sanitation facilities in schools. Disease spreads quickly in cramped spaces with limited ventilation, such as toilets, where handwashing facilities or soap are not available. We construct girls and boys toilets, install safe drinking water stations and hand washing stations with liquid soap so that children are able to implement the health practices they learn in class.
Community Health Program
We support, design and implement clinic-to-community programs in areas such as maternal, new born and child health, mental health, hypertension and diabetes.
Our on-going programs link treatment services with disease prevention and health education efforts, protecting women, mothers and new born babies.
Hepatitis B prevention is a major area of focus of our program. Hepatits B is a major clinical problem affecting 2 billion people worldwide. In India, half of the chronic Hepatitis B burden results from vertical or mother-to-child transmission.
Our community health program aims to prevent vertical transmission of Hepatitis B in low-income communities, protecting women in child-bearing age, expectant and lactating mothers and their babies.
Built on the four pillars of Surveillance, Testing, Education and Protection, the program is customized to address relevant issues and concerns related to chronic and acute diseases.
A trained team of health care workers and educators work closely with communities ensure desired health outcomes.
